"We could go to my house, if that'd make you feel better," I suggest.
My home was actually underground because of my light sensitivity.
Plus, it made it easier to keep hidden when I wanted to sleep.
Couldn't argue with that.
I rub her spine with my thumb for a moment.

I shiver involuntarily. My spine was sensitive, too...
"Or mine, but sure. Your place sounds as good as any."
I pause and then giggle.
"No coffins, right?"

[Mi'Jette]

I snort at her comment.
"Mno coffins or anything dramatic. Say for the shit ton of candles."
Candles didn't hurt my eyes at all.
"Electricity isn't easy for me to come by underground. Plus, others can track the wires and find me."

"Smart." I answer.
I'd done the same. I'd carved out a place for myself in a natural cave, by a spring.
Well, he had. Caves were his thing. If the place wasn't made to be a home by now, I would have gotten lost.
Since it would have been a shit ton to light with electricity, candles were what lit the place. Was nice, actually.
I bump her nose with mine.
"Lead the way, I guess."

"Will do," I smirk, letting her go and stepping around her to head out the door.
My tail didn't move much under my trench coat, but it occasionally snaked about my feet while I walked.
... Never quite understood that.
I suddenly start thinking about the fact that my place would probably still like dog...
Husky-boy had a wonderful scent of smoke about him, but he still naturally smelled like a mutt unfortunately.

I notice her tail now, my ears perking with interest.
I'd have to ask her about it later. I'd never seen a tail like that before.
I just follow her silently, curious as to what her place looked like.

"If you don't mind me asking," I start, "What was your partner like?"
My curiosity usually got the better of me when I was in motion.
Probably because my brain was working more so the thoughts flowed more frequently.

I snort.
"Like most badgers are. A dick, and scary as fuck when pissed off."
I flick my tail.
"He was kind, though, even if most people didn't think so. I've accepted jobs he probably would have turned down."
I could talk about him until Hell froze over, though I doubted she wanted to hear all of it.
"He taught me everything I know now. My trench coat was his, so was my rifle."
The simple silver band I had on the necklace I was wearing currently had been his ring. Mine was somewhere in a box under my pillow- rings were something I didn't wear on jobs. They caught too much light. His, though, was usually tucked into my shirt and I liked it there anyways. Even if he would've called me endearingly stupid for my sentiment.
"What about you?"

[Mi'Jette]

Her partner seemed like a typical hunter to me, but then again, he was clearly more to her than just typical.
I glance back over my shoulder when she asks me about my late partner.
"Mine was a husky... Proud and loyal to the end, but utterly cocky when his ego flared," I smirk;
"He took care of me and made sure I never attacked people when I couldn't keep my instincts under control. He took the beatings I gave him when I couldn't calm down and he simply held me till I stopped thrashing. Tolerated my threats and my snarky comments and made sure I could throw a knife farther than I could talk."
It was strange talking about him again, but he was a dear friend to me, regardless.
"He was a fabulous mutt all around in the end."

"Certainly sounds like it." I say.
The bit about the knife made me smile.
That was always a good thing to have.

"6'4" and fluffy. Never got old," I chuckle, remembering how there was only ever one bed in the house.
We had sex once, after taking out four targets in a night and getting drunk.
After that, we just slept next to each other so I would actually sleep.

"6'4" and fluffy?" I repeat. "Must've been awesome."
Tall and fluffy did tend to be awesome.
I fiddle with the ring on the chain around my neck while I talk, having trouble keeping my hands still.

"Very, very awesome," I reply.
I still had a few of his things back at the house...
Little trinkets I couldn't make myself get rid of.

I lapse off into silence, not to be rude, but because I couldn't think of anything to say.
Now it was just the sound of our boots hitting the cement.

I keep walking till we eventually hit a small house jammed between two condo-sized complexes.
The key I had in had unlocks the front door and I nudge it open, closing it once she got inside.
The place was covered in layers and layers of dirt, but I didn't care.
I move to one of the more art covered wall and grab a hidden lip in the wallpaper before tugging it open to reveal a staircase leading down to another door.
"After you."

"Very nice." I say, slipping down the stairs and perking my ears.

[Mi'Jette]

"Very creepy," I chuckle, stepping inside the stairwell and sliding the wall back into place, using a steel handle.
I walk down behind her and nudge open he door, letting her in.
The area was pitch black currently and I step around her to start lighting the candles that husky and I had placed about the room.
With how much wax was melted down certain areas of the walls and tables, one could tell how long we had occupied the space.
Once the candles are lit, they illuminate the basically one bedroom home, yet it was utterly spacing despite the location.
"It's not much... But it's convenient," I comment, glancing at the wood furniture and the bed with pelts piled on it.

I can still smell the musk of what must have been the husky she'd been speaking of.
Ah, she was lucky. His scent still lingered here.
I look around the room as it was illuminated, a faint smile on my face.
They'd been here awhile, and the place looked cozy as ever.
"Must be nice to come back to after a night out hunting."

[Midge]

[Mi'Jette]

"Extremely... It was wonderful and it helped us to recuperate."
I shoulder off my coat and toss it onto a worn out chair.
"Sometimes the fact that he's still here in a way, drives me insane and I break down to nothing," I admit, glancing at her.
Being so alone put me in a mental state of mind where I couldn't move for hours, occasionally days at a time.
"I miss him more than I could ever specifically admit to a living person."

I belive this was the part where I was supposed to make some kind, sentimental statement, but I'd had my social skills so screwed over from being a Hunter that I could only give her a sympathetic look, place my hand on her shoulder a brief moment, and then flop down on the bed.
It'd looked so soft I couldn't put off the urge any longer.

[Mi'Jette]

I hadn't expected her to verbally care, so it didn't bother me at all when she didn't say anything.
A smile creeps on my face when she flops onto the bed, figuring the pelts were a give away to the comfort.
My targets tended to be black market keepers or something or another, so I usually found the best pelts while on the job.

I roll around a bit and sigh happily.
"These are nice pelts." I comment, running my fingers over one.
"Who'd ya get 'em off of?"

[Mi'Jette]

"Mmm... A couple different places," I reply, sitting on the edge of the bed.
"A smuggler, a black market dealer, some rich couple, etc..."
I had a variety of targets. Surprised me sometimes.

I sit up, raising an eyebrow at her.
"Well, damn girl. You definitely get around.."

A pleased chuckle comes through my smirk at her comment.
"I get a lot of work piled up sometimes."
